Summer Camps!

My wonderful colleague in Williamsburg has put together this list annually for summer camp listings. Some of them are closer to where she teaches, and we certainly have some to add in our vicinity, including the upcoming camps at Studio 104 in Mount Vernon. But this is a good starting point!

TIme flies!

It’s been a while since I posted anything. This has been the strangest year teaching. No excuses…just strange and a different kind of busy. Modifying how you’re teaching is a whole new ball of wax, and it takes so much focus and organization, and as a result, I’ve let this blog slack.

Here’s what we’re doing right now:

3rd grade ELP has been working on an engineering unit all month; planning, designing, building, and testing.

3rd grade enrichment is working on geography mysteries!

4th grade ELP just wrapped up their Choose-Your-Own-Adventure story writing unit and will be embarking into Ancient Civilizations soon.

4th grade enrichment is doing a unit on National Parks…history, geography, and research.

5th/6th grade enrichment has been tackling some tough issues in our Stamped unit on anti-racism, as has 8th grade.

7th grade is working on a career study unit and playing the Stock Market Game.

Busy busy busy! And spring is here….so all is well in ELP!

….And we’re back!

Todays marks our first day back together as a whole group, which poses some challenges regarding spacing and such, but it looks like it’s working so far.

I have a new 8th grade group working on philosophy, a new 7th grade group working on career exploration, and all of my previous groups, just chopped up and squeezed in to make them fit safely together.

5th and 6th grade are working on a geography unit called Explore the World With Mrs. Maddock

4th grade ELP is working on a STEM careers unit,

4th grade enrichment is planning a trip to Mars,

3rd grade ELP is working on engineering projects,

and 3rd grade enrichment is working on a multiplication puzzle unit.

5th grade math is learning about the Order of Operations.

It’s going to be a busy busy semester. Stay tuned for fun updates!

In the meantime, enjoy this short clip of 8th graders actually discussing an important topic earnestly!
